Statement of Purpose

The Michigan Coalition for Pregnancy Wellness (MICO), Inc. is a statewide network of pregnancy wellness organizations, including pregnancy resource centers, pregnancy help medical clinics, and maternity homes. As a private non-profit 501(c)(6) corporation, MICO provides advocacy and educational support for member organizations, enabling and assisting them in their mission to support pregnant women and their families in need in MICHIGAN.

The network currently consists of approximately 78 MICHIGAN pregnancy support organizations providing direct services to pregnant women and their families. These services may include pregnancy decision coaching, referrals, prenatal and parenting education, material support, and ongoing support to help meet the emotional and physical needs of pregnant women and assist them and their families in preparing to parent their baby or place their baby for adoption. Members may also provide post-abortion counseling and education.

In addition to pregnancy counseling services, education, and material support, many of our members also provide limited medical services under the direction of a Medical Director and are free of charge for qualified individuals*. The exams can vary but may include pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasound, well-woman annual exams, abortion pill reversal treatment, fertility education and instruction, and sexual risk counseling by trained nurses or other duly certified providers. Some member organizations also provide sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, treatment, and prevention education. Members may also provide Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) education in public and private schools in accordance with State standards.

*Qualified individuals may be determined by insurance status and/or ability to pay.

It is understood that many clinics provide all services free of charge.  Some medical clinics accept Medicaid and private insurance for those who carry that coverage and still offer charity care as per the requirements of their 501c3 status.

Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. – (Exodus 20:2-3; II Corinthians 13:14; I Peter 1:2).

WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21).

WE BELIEVE in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Philippians 2:5-11, Romans 5:19; John 3:3-21; Romans 8:35-39).

WE BELIEVE the Biblical account of the creation of the universe through the direct and immediate creative acts of God (Genesis 1 and 2).

WE BELIEVE in the unique creation of man in the image and likeness of God and that physical life is His sovereign gift, as such we are dedicated to preserving and protecting every human life from the womb to the tomb (Genesis 1:27; 9:6).

WE BELIEVE that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential and that this salvation is received through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and not as a result of good works. (Isaiah 64:6-7; Ephesians 2:8-10; John 3:16-17).

WE BELIEVE in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life and to perform good works. (John 14:16;  Gal. 5:16-18)

WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of judgment. (Acts 1:11; I Thessalonians 4:13-18).

WE BELIEVE in the Biblical model for the family – that marriage is between one man and one woman for life, and that children are a gift of God, human life begins at conception, all humans are created with the right to life, and we are called to aid the least among us. ( Genesis 2:20-24; Psalm 127:3; Mark 10:6-9).

WE BELIEVE in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.  ( Ephesians 4:1-16; Romans 15:5-6)

Statement of Principle

All services are provided with this basis:

  1. Children are a gift of God, human life begins at conception also known as fertilization,  all humans are created with the right to life and we are called to aid the least among us.
  2. Both the born and the unborn are endowed by our Creator with an inalienable right to life, and that in all cases of crisis pregnancies, a solution should be sought which equally values the mother and unborn child and allows them both to live.
  3. We should do all things for the glory of God.
  4. Each of us should use whatever gift we have received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace.
  5. We are called to educate with compassion, gentleness, and respect, keeping a clear conscience and always telling the truth. We are to love one another as Jesus Christ loved us. This love is patient and kind, not insisting on its own way, not arrogant, not rude, but rejoicing in the truth.
  6. We never recommend, facilitate, or refer for abortion or abortifacients. We never recommend, facilitate, or refer for contraceptives. Women should be informed of the abortifacient nature of contraceptives as applicable.
  7. Education on sexual purity is offered to unmarried people.
  8. We are called to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In evangelism, we acknowledge that each client may be at a different point along his/her Christian spiritual journey and receive those who have a different faith. We do so without passing judgment on disputable matters. However, we should always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks the reason for the hope in salvation that we have.
